Rural Marketing can be defined as “a function that manages all activities involved in assessing, stimulating and transforming the purchasing power of rural consumers into effective demand for specific products and services to create satisfaction & a better standard of living for achieving organizational goals.” Rural consumers, who were traditionally ignored by most multinationals, are estimated to consume around four trillion dollars per year across the globe. Nowadays with changing consumer mindset and increasing disposable income of the consumers, the scenario is changing rapidly. Rural markets have unique features and rural marketing provides the much needed competencies to deal with the same. Serving the ‘Bottom of The Pyramid’ has become an important mandate for numerous multinational companies owing to the saturation in urban markets.
